You're not gonna hate it. [00:00:47] Speaker D: Yeah. All in all, the cavaliers are chiefs. Top of the line. Always, always be reaching for one. [00:00:53] Speaker A: We'll be right back after this break. Brought to you almost live from the dude in the basement studios. [00:01:21] Speaker D: Why? [00:01:22] Speaker A: Cause that's where the good stuff is. It sips, suds, and smokes with your smokin host, the good old boys. Hey, man, got a light? It's time for smokes. [00:01:57] Speaker B: Good morning, smokers. Trying something new today. How'd it go, folks? [00:02:04] Speaker E: The red button. There you go. Thank you. I appreciate it. There you go. [00:02:09] Speaker B: Morning, guys. Welcome to this Smokes episodes, where everything good in life is worth discussing. I'm your host, good old boy barger. On the ones and twos. [00:02:23] Speaker E: This is at the top of questionable decisions. [00:02:26] Speaker B: This is fair. Good old boy rich with us today as well. [00:02:29] Speaker D: How do? [00:02:30] Speaker B: All right. We're the best thing on at 02:00 a.m. right before that damn Kinson era that's still going on next door. Oh, they just go for so long. [00:02:40] Speaker E: Well, you know, it's so much soda pop and, you know, lemonade. [00:02:46] Speaker B: I just can't do it. [00:02:47] Speaker E: Yes. [00:02:47] Speaker B: And then that's just after glitter everywhere. That's right. That's right. You wake up and there's glitter all over bar. And we're on just after doom scrolling because you cannot sleep. Hoof. [00:02:59] Speaker E: You know? Is there a support group for that? [00:03:01] Speaker B: Oh, yeah. [00:03:02] Speaker E: Cause, I mean, I get, like, thumb springs at, like, 02:00 a.m. that's my. [00:03:07] Speaker B: Suck for a lawyer, especially. Did you have to write all day long? [00:03:10] Speaker E: No. [00:03:11] Speaker B: The pressure on your thumb. [00:03:12] Speaker E: I just, you know, stuff that thing out. [00:03:16] Speaker D: All the finger pointing. [00:03:17] Speaker B: He's all the finger. You do this, write this, write what I say. [00:03:20] Speaker E: I still. I still have my finger I can point with. But you know, if it's doom scrolling. It's a thumb injury. [00:03:27] Speaker B: I see ya. [00:03:28] Speaker C: I need someone to take some dictatorships. [00:03:30] Speaker B: Yes, someone dictate what I'm saying, please. As you know and well as I hope you know, our smoke segments are all about cigars or, well, anything that smokes. As for today's segment. Drumroll, please. We are going overseas with cavalier cigars. [00:03:49] Speaker C: Yeah. [00:03:52] Speaker B: So strap in and hang in tight. We're gonna have fun today. But don't worry if you miss anything. You can download a full episode from anywhere that you listen to. Podcasts. We are everywhere. Go. Listen to us. Listen to us on multiple platforms. We love it all. We will listen and keep talking. But before we dive into the shallow end of the pool, remember the buddy system. Where's your buddy? [00:04:14] Speaker E: Oh, we didn't load that one. Sorry. [00:04:17] Speaker B: You missed the buddy system. Today. We'll just play it out. Buddy. [00:04:25] Speaker D: Buddy. [00:04:26] Speaker B: That's right. A cigar. Newbie, fret not. We got you covered on our cigar. One on one episode where all this cigar speak will be decoded. Just search for sip, suds and smokes on Cigar 101. That episode should pop right up on the link below. [00:04:41] Speaker E: Fabulous episode. [00:04:42] Speaker B: It's a great episode. That's right. That's right. I am good old boy barter and I'm going to tell you our smokes rating. Today we will be smoking and discussing these cigars and rating them with our sips, suds and smokes patented rating in our signature sound. [00:05:01] Speaker E: Interesting? [00:05:01] Speaker B: Patent pending. [00:05:02] Speaker E: Who did that? [00:05:04] Speaker B: Yeah. One. It sucked before it was lit. Two, at least I lit it. Three. I'd smoke it again. Four. How much up for them? Magnificent. Five. Where are they? I need a box. Today, the cigars we will be reviewing are the white series diplomat. The black two, robusto. The b two. Viso Jalapa, the prospector. And an event only Lancero, so rich, is going to take it away at the top of the hour with the white series diplomat. 5.5 by 56. [00:06:01] Speaker D: Is it diplomat or diploma? [00:06:03] Speaker E: Diploma. I'm going to go with diplomat. [00:06:05] Speaker B: My french is a little rusty. [00:06:07] Speaker D: So this is the white series. [00:06:08] Speaker E: That's one of those big words. [00:06:09] Speaker B: Yes, that's one of those big two. [00:06:12] Speaker D: Syllable words that ain't american right there. The white series is the original blend of the brand. It was Sebastian's decoupe first take on a mild to medium but very complex cigar. The cigars offer beautiful transition in all sizes, while each of them provides a distinct experience and personality. [00:06:35] Speaker E: Huh. That sounds like, exactly what's happening here at this table. There is a broad range of experience and personality. [00:06:43] Speaker B: That's true, that's true. [00:06:44] Speaker D: Lots of different sides. [00:06:45] Speaker E: I'm on the no ink end of the table. [00:06:48] Speaker B: That's right. We're just going to need you to do that. [00:06:50] Speaker E: I am own natural tattoo. [00:06:53] Speaker B: If you'll just use that thumb and take some notes for us today. [00:06:57] Speaker E: Let me connect the dots. Okay. [00:07:00] Speaker D: The wrapper on this is a Habano, the binder's Connecticut. The fillers are Nicaragua, Paraguay and Dominican Republic. And if I go by my script, it's asked for thoights thwaites. [00:07:12] Speaker B: I just thought I'd throw that in there to see what you thought about the. You know, my script writing. [00:07:17] Speaker E: I have to say, this is the first time that I recall that I've had a filler from Paraguay. Yeah, yeah. That's not a very common filler. [00:07:24] Speaker B: Nova, have some. [00:07:26] Speaker E: No, I don't think so. That's some Paraguay cigars. [00:07:30] Speaker B: Anyways, well, folks, go back and listen and point it out to Mike. Just make sure you hate Mike on that. Yes, doctor hater. So what did you guys think about? Yeah, Rich, what do you think? Since you're on deck. [00:07:44] Speaker D: Yeah, you know, the cavaliers. Interesting. Has the gold leafing on the wrapper. I found it. [00:07:52] Speaker B: Every cigar. [00:07:53] Speaker D: Every cigar. Every cigar. [00:07:55] Speaker B: Signature gold leaflet. [00:07:57] Speaker D: And I found it a personal challenge to smoke it all the way through that, just because. [00:08:04] Speaker B: Smoke the gold, baby, smoke. [00:08:06] Speaker C: Yeah. [00:08:07] Speaker D: No, I really like this cigar. Had a little slight sweetness, very smooth, mild to medium body. And I almost hesitant to say. It was a little woody. [00:08:19] Speaker B: She speak to the mic and not to me? [00:08:20] Speaker D: I'm sorry. Oh, he's what? It was a little woody. Wasn't that woody? [00:08:30] Speaker B: I didn't ask for this. [00:08:31] Speaker C: You said the word. [00:08:32] Speaker D: Yeah, yeah, but I like this cigar. I felt like you could smoke it at any time. Yeah, good, good, good. Smoke for me. [00:08:39] Speaker E: Mister woods, for the white series Corona, I wrote it's a little spicy upfront, the spice kind of subdued, and you pick up some wood. [00:08:52] Speaker B: Not gonna do it. He's resisting. [00:08:54] Speaker E: Oh, and it's. I wrote down this kind of ho hum, you know, it was. Yeah, it was kind of below average, you know, for me, the door and. [00:09:06] Speaker B: You can leave any momentous. [00:09:10] Speaker E: Yeah, you know, I. I was just like, you know, hi ho, hi ho, it's off to the next cigar we go. [00:09:19] Speaker B: So that Mike has unbelievable standards. [00:09:22] Speaker D: Yeah. That he is never unrealistic able to achieve. [00:09:26] Speaker E: There are scars in this lineup I like. [00:09:28] Speaker B: So angry in life. [00:09:29] Speaker E: This was not. This was not at the top. It wasn't at the bottom, I can tell you that. So there's that. [00:09:35] Speaker C: You know, Benjamin, this was my introduction. Smoked to this brand. I guess I'd found out about Cavalier about a year ago. [00:09:46] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:09:47] Speaker C: And started smoking them. And this was my first experience. And what kind of lit that fire for this brand, for me? Also got to meet Sebastian and his team, salt of the earth, PCA 23, and great people that just turn the volume up for me. These guys don't miss for me. [00:10:08] Speaker B: Absolutely. [00:10:09] Speaker C: I think, you know, especially in that all day smoking mindset. [00:10:15] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:10:16] Speaker C: You can't go wrong grabbing a cavalier any time of day. They just. They work. [00:10:23] Speaker B: I kind of like to think of them as like a. And they're not really a budget stick, but I like to think of them as a budget Davidoff. [00:10:28] Speaker C: They're not. They're not crazy, though, man. [00:10:31] Speaker E: I just heard everyone's head exploded. I wish. Stupid. [00:10:35] Speaker D: Register a complete. [00:10:37] Speaker E: Oh, yeah, that's for sure. For me, I can hear them filing for injected. [00:10:43] Speaker B: For me, it's just the consistency. Like, the consistency of their burger cigars and how consistent Sebastian is with the flavor profiles of his cigars. Just remind me of, like, early days of the David off. Like, just real, you know what you're gonna get every time you pick one up. [00:11:01] Speaker C: I concur. I think the consistency here is overwhelming almost. [00:11:08] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:11:08] Speaker C: Right. You're like, well, didn't miss again. Right. So. But that's exactly what you're looking for. I think that's the mark of a brand that's doing the right thing, making the right decisions, and actually caring about what they're doing. He's not just in it because he wants to make a ton of money, which is, for the love of the game, refreshing, man. Like, yeah, he just likes making cool cigars. And it works. [00:11:35] Speaker D: Interesting, because I did have some construction issues with these cigars. [00:11:38] Speaker C: You probably kept them in your human or too long. [00:11:41] Speaker B: You set it on the counter for a week. [00:11:43] Speaker D: Yeah, it's funny. [00:11:44] Speaker E: Amazing. [00:11:45] Speaker D: Marger handed them to me. I smoked. It wasn't too bad for most of them, but I did kind of have to do some touch ups here and there. [00:11:57] Speaker B: I will say this, and I've witnessed you smoke hundreds of cigars. And I love you. [00:12:02] Speaker D: Here it comes. [00:12:04] Speaker B: You smoke entirely too fast. [00:12:06] Speaker D: Oh, okay. [00:12:07] Speaker B: And you have a lot of canoe issues. [00:12:10] Speaker D: No, I do not. I don't have canoe issues. [00:12:12] Speaker B: You have enough canoe issues that I've given you a paddle for Christmas. Wow. [00:12:18] Speaker C: Yeah, dude, at least they didn't give. [00:12:20] Speaker D: You the Met was a different kind of. [00:12:22] Speaker E: At least didn't give you the metro you're talking about. [00:12:28] Speaker B: Oh, man. [00:12:28] Speaker D: I tell you what, I do not smoke too fast. [00:12:30] Speaker B: You do sometimes. [00:12:32] Speaker D: We'll talk about smarty smoker. [00:12:33] Speaker B: Listen, I thought that I really concur with Benjamin. I think that this is a good introduction to their line because this is their flagship. This is a great cigar to pick up. So I'm a big fan of cavalier, period. And thankful that we got an opportunity to go over their product line. But this cigar, if you haven't had it, I would suggest you go get it. What are we going to rate this, guys? We'll go a four majority rules here. So we have four ratings. Magnificent. All right, so next up, after the break, we're gonna do the black two. And that's gonna be Mike. [00:13:20] Speaker E: Oh, yeah. [00:13:21] Speaker B: Yeah. So once we come back from the break, you'll hear all the goodness. [00:13:25] Speaker E: Mmhmm. [00:13:27] Speaker B: Welcome back. Did you guys buy what they were just talking about? Cuz I already bought two and I'm so happy with my purchase. Yeah, expedite the shipping just overnight that we're here. [00:13:40] Speaker E: Use that promo code. [00:13:41] Speaker B: Use the promo code. Hey, guys. So, yeah, for real, Mike, mate, Mike's opinion is garbage. [00:13:47] Speaker E: I think that sucks. [00:13:49] Speaker C: I think it sucks. [00:13:49] Speaker B: Absolutely. So we're going to go with the black two. Now, Mike's going to tell us all about that. It's a robusto. Five by 50. Take it away, Mike. [00:13:58] Speaker E: The black two blended to deliver a unique old school Maduro experience. The line offers richness and complexity with a medium strength. The car is given amazing age tobacco experience combined to a dark profile. The wrapper on this is San Andreas. The binder is habano, and the filler is nicaraguan. Ding, ding, ding. Yeah, I heard you. You know, over there. [00:14:24] Speaker B: I love the San Andreas wrapper. [00:14:27] Speaker E: Yeah, I like it when it's really good. And in this. [00:14:30] Speaker B: You better just stop. [00:14:31] Speaker E: In this particular case, I did. This was my favorite of the flight. [00:14:37] Speaker B: Go on. [00:14:38] Speaker E: So this is actually, Barker and I were at an event last night, so this was a cigar I was enjoying. [00:14:46] Speaker B: Oh, really? That's why you wouldn't talk to me? [00:14:48] Speaker E: Yeah, I was concentrating on this. [00:14:50] Speaker B: I thought you didn't want to see me in public. [00:14:52] Speaker E: I wrote down very chill. How many cigars have I written that down? Like zero. [00:14:58] Speaker B: Can I get a ding on that one? [00:15:01] Speaker E: Yeah, very chill. Mild up front. A tad earthy. It kind of maintains the chill all the way through the middle. And I. I had a really cool beer that was paired with this. We can talk about that after we finished talking about the cigar. But, yeah, I really liked this. It was. It was definitely a solid pick out of the whole flight. It was my favorite out of the whole. [00:15:24] Speaker B: That's. That's interesting. You liked the San Andreas over all the things. [00:15:31] Speaker E: No, I. [00:15:31] Speaker B: You know, this is. I'm so glad this is recorded. [00:15:35] Speaker E: Yes, I'd love. Good. I love great cigars. And, you know, yes, there are. There are some wrappers that I prefer over others, depending on usually what I'm pairing it with. And I really enjoyed what I paired this with. I do think it, you know, elevated the experience. [00:15:53] Speaker B: Well, what'd you pair it with? [00:15:54] Speaker E: Um, it was a very. It was a very unique beer from a brewery called OEC. It was a black lager, and it was actually finished in a cool ship. [00:16:06] Speaker B: So what's a cool ship? [00:16:08] Speaker E: So cool ship is just like a really big table sink that they flow all the beer out after they finish the primary boil on it. [00:16:20] Speaker B: Like a giant stainless steel square tub is exactly it. [00:16:24] Speaker E: They're usually fairly big. I don't know what the size of their. [00:16:27] Speaker B: About the size of this room we're in. [00:16:29] Speaker E: Yeah, I would say, you know, ten by 20, you know, maybe some of the larger cool ships are 30 by. [00:16:34] Speaker B: 34 foot deep, probably. [00:16:36] Speaker E: No, shallow. Yeah, it's all about surface area, because what you want is you want it to get infected with natural yeast. So they tend to have cool ships where they actually open the windows up and they just let the wind blow in, and whatever yeast just kind of blows across, you know, onto it that then infects the beer. So it actually winds up with a. It's a bit sour. And in this case, I actually wrote down the word. It was incredibly refreshing, and so I. This was a great pairing, and I think it actually elevated the cigar for me. [00:17:11] Speaker B: Well, thank you for joining us on the sips episode. [00:17:15] Speaker E: This is suds. [00:17:16] Speaker B: No, that is really good beer. So I wanted you to take the time to say that, because I really think that it's important for our listeners if you had that experience with that type of beer. I think it's important that people understand it's okay to grab a sour beer or something that's funny with a cigar because. [00:17:34] Speaker E: Absolutely. [00:17:35] Speaker B: You get a lot of that different yeast. And sometimes that Britannia myces comes out. Sometimes that. I'm sure I said that. [00:17:42] Speaker E: What did you say? [00:17:43] Speaker C: Hold on. You couldn't get it earlier, but. Bro, tantro de meiosis? [00:17:50] Speaker E: No, I struggle with this. [00:17:55] Speaker B: I struggle with the small words when. [00:17:59] Speaker D: It comes to alcohol. [00:18:02] Speaker B: I think that's important, that the listeners, and it's something that we don't really punch on too much, is how tasting notes compare with other cigars, like how different alcohols and different coffees and different teas and things that the herbs, the spices, the natural air, the yeast, all those things play into how you enjoy your cigar. And I think that that's something that I would like to dive into in an episode sometime, is just pairings. Like, we're going to do a pairings episode next season, I think. Sure. Yeah, it's going to be great. [00:18:36] Speaker E: I do that on Tuesdays and Wednesdays and Thursdays. [00:18:40] Speaker B: Is that an aa or what is that? [00:18:43] Speaker E: I take a 20 minutes break. [00:18:45] Speaker B: Yeah, for sure. Rich, what do you think about it? [00:18:48] Speaker D: No, I totally agree. I love the cigar I picked up. I wrote down the. I picked up a little campfire kind of taste. [00:18:55] Speaker B: Would you say that's wood? [00:18:57] Speaker D: A little bit, yeah, I had. [00:19:02] Speaker E: A. [00:19:02] Speaker D: Little medium bold, a little bit of cedar. I don't know. Just really, really good for me. [00:19:11] Speaker C: Benjamin, this thing rocks. [00:19:12] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:19:13] Speaker C: So it's got some body to it. It's got some heft to it, but it. It reminds me of, like, the. The first padrone I ever smoked it. [00:19:26] Speaker E: That is a pretty. That's a very good comparison. [00:19:29] Speaker C: It's got some, like it. It's got some old dustiness in a. [00:19:33] Speaker B: Really cool way, but also a little oil. [00:19:36] Speaker C: Oily. Right. Velvety. The. The smoke does have, like, a really nice texture to it. And this is a cigar. You feel like you're smoking a cigar. And so that's the experience that I'm looking for on a pretty consistent basis. I want the smoke to kind of be big and kind of heavy and weighty. And this thing absolutely delivers that. [00:20:01] Speaker B: I. You know what, guys? I've smoked enough of these that I absolutely love this cigar. It's a banger in my book, for sure. I've smoked everything that cavalier has had multiple, multiples, because I'm just. This. This last year, really introducing the year before last was my introduction to Cavalier as a whole. And then getting to meet Sebastian and talk to him, pick his brain a little bit about what his brands are and what is what he's doing. Like, man, it just solidifies that. I support that brand 100%. And, you know, it's. Is a fantastic cigar to smoke. This is another one of their cores that if you pick one up, I doubt you'll be disappointed, for sure. Let's give it a rating. You know, that is a four across the board. [00:20:49] Speaker E: Yep. [00:20:53] Speaker B: And I'm magnificent. Always miss that cue. But I am extremely satisfied to see Mike's four little stubby fingers. [00:21:04] Speaker E: I would go back and enjoy this cigar again. That is my highest compliment. Yeah. [00:21:10] Speaker B: Cause I don't think I've ever heard you say that. [00:21:12] Speaker E: I don't double back on anything. I just, you know, we have too many things to try, you know, for the show. And. [00:21:18] Speaker B: And your first wife said the same thing. [00:21:24] Speaker E: You know, we'll fix that in post. [00:21:31] Speaker B: All right. Here on comedy hour with Mike. And Mike here, you were going to. [00:21:35] Speaker E: Talk about some time with Sebastian. [00:21:36] Speaker B: You know what? I just. We spent some time with Sebastian at PCA. For the last couple of years, we've spent, you know, about an hour with him, sitting with him, smoking a cigar, and getting to know him a little bit. That dude's awesome. His whole team is just solid, salt of the earth people. They're real, down to earth, extremely approachable. But what we kind of connected on was his love for black metal and my love for black metal and how we, good parent, transpose those things into our flavor profiles of cigars, which is interesting. And so I think that, you know, a lot of. Some of the influence that goes into that can also be attributed to music when he's blending and listening to music. And it's not just black metal. He listens to all sorts of different types of music. But, you know, I think that there is a distinction between the receptors in our brain that that music flows through and our taste buds. I think those two things correlate. I can't say there's science on it. Haven't put that out there. But in my brain, it makes sense. [00:22:51] Speaker C: So pairings all about experience and what you're looking for in that experience, whether it be complimentary or contrasting, it's about finding the right space to be in to reach that maximum level of enjoyment. So whether it is your favorite rum, a cool new beer that you're excited about, a cigar you've never smoked before, having a hard day at work and coming home to want to listen to some music and kind of, you know, de stress and just kind of ground and reconnect to yourself, you have that opportunity. And when those things line up, yeah. When all of those things come together perfectly, it makes that experience something that is memorable, and it works. And so I think that's a really good point for us, too, because we're on here spewing our opinions about all of the things that we. Yeah. About all the things that we like or dislike, you know, identify with, don't identify with. But I think that that overriding note is try it for yourself. [00:24:00] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:24:01] Speaker C: And if you're in the. The right space and time, everything can be a little bit different. So it's worth going back. [00:24:07] Speaker B: That's right. [00:24:08] Speaker C: You know, unlike Mike has time to do, you know. [00:24:10] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:24:11] Speaker C: Revisiting a little bit. [00:24:12] Speaker B: And if you're gonna spew into this. [00:24:18] Speaker C: But. But just know that those experiences change based on, you know, the atmosphere and something, you know, like music makes a lot of sense. [00:24:26] Speaker B: Yeah, absolutely. And I think that there's, you know, everything in itself is a mental game. Right. So whether you're on the golf course. [00:24:36] Speaker E: I've met a lot of mental people. [00:24:37] Speaker B: Yeah. Whether you're drinking, whether you're post meal, whether you're premeal, just something that. Where you can sit down. And I think that's the key. And honestly, I think that's where he is striving to get you to do is to take a second, know where you're at and slow down. [00:24:58] Speaker E: It's pretty deep for a cigar. [00:25:02] Speaker B: That's what I, that's what this brand really reminds me of is taking a second. For me, like, when I light a cavalier cigar, I'm not just going to willy nilly light a cavalier cigar. I'm going to actually sit down and I'm gonna think about things and I'm gonna sit there and enjoy the cigar, because for me, it's the experience of that. Like, there's plenty of cigar brands. You'll just light and mow the yard light and do this. Light and do that. But there's particular brands in my brain anyway that I have. I have a higher regard for wellness. [00:25:34] Speaker E: Yeah. [00:25:34] Speaker D: And that's why you go, like, when you have something to celebrate. [00:25:37] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:25:37] Speaker D: Like, you know. [00:25:38] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:25:39] Speaker D: When my daughter got absolutely. [00:25:40] Speaker B: The wedding. Yeah. [00:25:41] Speaker D: You gave me a cigar and it's like you want to. It's for me, a cigar. Good cigar. You sit down and it makes you kind of just slow down. [00:25:50] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:25:50] Speaker D: And be present. You have to. Exactly. You have to sit there and you can enjoy it. And it just totally just chills me and relaxes me. So, like, at the wedding, right after the ceremony, man, I lit up a good cigar and I was just able to float around the room. [00:26:05] Speaker E: See, I, usually my guard up is when barger walks over and he says, hey, man, why don't you go smoke this? With no context at all. My radar is on full. [00:26:21] Speaker B: Which is not unlike me. [00:26:22] Speaker E: I mean, the difference between that and pull my finger is about 1.8 seconds. [00:26:29] Speaker B: Fool me once. Burger. Fool me once. [00:26:32] Speaker C: That's right. [00:26:33] Speaker D: Shame on me. [00:26:36] Speaker B: All right, well, we're going to jump right into the next one. The b two v. So halapa. And that's the. The v. So jalapa. They call that the new school. And we had the torpedo, the six by 52. Benjamin, take it away. [00:26:49] Speaker C: Yeah. So the b two visa jalapa line puts the visa lapa wrapper on the front of the scene. The cigars deliver a deep, rich, and oily profile for a new school. Maduro experience. Rapper vesa halapa binder. Habano filler, nicaraguan. This actually says, thoughts. Sorry. [00:27:13] Speaker D: Checks. [00:27:17] Speaker B: Repeat. [00:27:18] Speaker D: Yeah. [00:27:19] Speaker C: So. So for me, and I think this is really cool, not only to talk about these cigars back to back, but if you decide to pick up cavalier cigars to kind of smoke these things, you know, one after the other, and kind of do the comparison and contrast. [00:27:35] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:27:36] Speaker C: The. The new school that they're talking about here is more of a, like, chocolatey, oily, smoother kind of smoke for me, just this thing is. Is more like melting chocolate. It's not like raw, heavy cacao. It's more of like a blended. It's a little bit lighter. It's a little bit more approachable. [00:28:02] Speaker B: Confectioners. Confectionaries. [00:28:05] Speaker C: Well, so I think that those maybe get a little bitter. This one's a little bit more creamy and approachable. This is definitely more like a milk chocolate Desert II. This is definitely more, you know, ganache, if you will. [00:28:16] Speaker B: Okay. [00:28:17] Speaker C: Right. As opposed to, like, a raw baker's chocolate. [00:28:22] Speaker B: Sure, sure. [00:28:23] Speaker C: And I think that that's also something that I am starting to grow into my original experience. [00:28:31] Speaker B: Chocolate. [00:28:34] Speaker C: Yeah, sure. [00:28:36] Speaker B: No, I'm going into chocolate. [00:28:38] Speaker D: That was the showstopper. [00:28:40] Speaker B: Really? [00:28:43] Speaker C: Yeah. [00:28:44] Speaker D: Good. [00:28:46] Speaker C: I'm dealing with a lot of addictions now. [00:28:48] Speaker D: I'm working on it. [00:28:49] Speaker B: Hey, I'm growing into chocolate. [00:28:51] Speaker D: I'm big bowling this together. [00:28:56] Speaker C: Right. You know, you can't have too many nuggets. [00:28:59] Speaker B: That's right. [00:29:00] Speaker C: Godiva. Watch out. Well, also, a cool way to pair cigars. I've been through a blind tasting. [00:29:07] Speaker B: Absolutely. [00:29:07] Speaker C: With chocolates and cigars. [00:29:09] Speaker B: Absolutely. [00:29:10] Speaker C: Cold brew coffee was in the mix, too. [00:29:12] Speaker E: Oh, yeah. [00:29:13] Speaker C: And you get the opportunity to almost blind your palate with those bigger, bolder flavor notes that are a little bit more prominent. And you start to see the nuance of the cigar peak through, which is a really, really cool experience. [00:29:25] Speaker B: So that was something at PCA. [00:29:27] Speaker D: Are we boring you? [00:29:28] Speaker B: No, no, I'm just tired all the time. [00:29:30] Speaker C: Take a lap. [00:29:30] Speaker B: Yeah, right. For sure. That was something at the PCA that was really interesting to me because there were a couple of booths that were giving out chocolates as well, but there was one and that was United Cigar company. And they give you a full bar of dark chocolate. [00:29:43] Speaker D: Oh, yeah. [00:29:44] Speaker B: When they handed you their, and that stuff was awesome to pair with some of the cigars we got from them. [00:29:51] Speaker C: Absolutely. It's, it's a really cool experience because. [00:29:55] Speaker E: Also mask a lot of sins as well. [00:29:57] Speaker B: Oh, for sure, for sure. But you know, you take the good with the bad and you got chocolate and you chocolate. [00:30:06] Speaker D: And that's the greatest thing about chocolate involved. [00:30:09] Speaker B: I, we have talk. So I'll say, before I let you guys talk a little bit, I'll say this was my favorite of the bunch. [00:30:18] Speaker E: Hmm. [00:30:18] Speaker C: Ooh, not a fave. [00:30:20] Speaker B: No, it was my favorite. [00:30:22] Speaker C: Okay. [00:30:22] Speaker B: It was my favorite of the bunch. The torpedo size is just great. And I'm not usually a larger, you know, 50, 48 to 52 is my go to. Are you talking about girth? Yeah. Why don't we tell, tell them what girth is. Today we're going to be demonstrating how to measure girth. [00:30:37] Speaker C: Growth is a very important measurement when determining sizes. [00:30:41] Speaker B: First, take your tape measure, place it at the center of the shoulder, bring. [00:30:46] Speaker E: It down through the crotch and back. [00:30:49] Speaker C: Up again, making sure it's going over the widest part. [00:30:54] Speaker B: So the girth of the cigar actually does a lot for the flavor, if you didn't notice. [00:31:01] Speaker C: I'm keen to that information. Yeah. I've heard this about cigars and girth. [00:31:06] Speaker B: Yes. [00:31:06] Speaker D: So this was my favorite as well. I have to say, with the torpedo. [00:31:12] Speaker B: Mike probably hated it. [00:31:13] Speaker D: Yeah, probably. But with the torpedo, I never know how much to take off. Like to cut it? [00:31:19] Speaker B: Oh, like the brisk. [00:31:21] Speaker D: So I'm a problem a little, I'm a little conservative. Just, I'm just a, I'm just saying. But I think it goes back to the girth. I didn't quite take enough off because it was a little tighten. But as soon as I recut it, man, this was a great cigar. [00:31:34] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:31:35] Speaker D: I mean, I just, I enjoyed it all the way through. It had some spice to it. Very medium body, little leathery notes to it. Yeah. Thickly cushioned contour seats available even in fine corinthian leather. I just wanted to lay down and cuddle with it. [00:31:55] Speaker B: Yeah. So good, Mike, what'd you think? [00:31:58] Speaker E: I'll do this quick. It was pretty earthy. Upfront. A little spicy. Was Woody. Bitter? Completely unbalanced, you say? [00:32:05] Speaker B: Woody, I did not like this. No. I knew it. I knew he wouldn't like it at all. Yeah, I knew. [00:32:15] Speaker E: Sorry, doctor hater. Never knew. [00:32:16] Speaker B: That's. You just can't. Please. [00:32:18] Speaker E: You did not. Worst of the flight. [00:32:20] Speaker B: Yeah. We'll come back with our rating after that. And welcome back from all those glorious commercials. I hope you enjoyed it and purchased whatever they tell you to. Purchase, consume. Consume. All right, so we're going to come back with our rating on the b two v. So halapa and we are going to exclude Mike from that rating because he's banned. Once again. That's a five across the board. Give us a box. We will take it all. Alright, so up next is myself with the prospector Toro six by 50 that they sent us. The prospector is a double kappa cigar. Both wrappers are halapa, but come from different primings of the plant that. You don't know what the primings are? It's the primings. Look it up. I'm just gonna leave that a mystery for you. We'll talk about that in cigar 101. [00:33:19] Speaker D: Does that mean you don't know? [00:33:21] Speaker B: No, I know, but we're gonna go back to Cigar 101 with that. If you want to know what a priming is, go back and listen to it. Thank you for that. Which creates a unique depth in the profile of these cigars. The wrapper is a halapa, the binder is habano, and the filler is nicaraguan. Let me know what you guys thought about this. Rich, what'd you think about this one? [00:33:41] Speaker D: I gotta give you a disclaimer on this one. [00:33:43] Speaker B: Oh, here we go. [00:33:43] Speaker D: Yeah, I had a. [00:33:45] Speaker E: He hated it. [00:33:47] Speaker D: Well, I had a severe problem with this one. It had a very, very tight draw. Um, took, uh, probably about half of it to get through that. So I think I. I felt like it was. I may have skewed it a little bit, but, um. [00:34:04] Speaker B: Could it have been humidification? [00:34:06] Speaker D: I don't know. You tell me. [00:34:07] Speaker E: Was it your right hand or your left hand? [00:34:09] Speaker C: It could have been. [00:34:10] Speaker B: Were you inside or outside? [00:34:11] Speaker D: Yeah, I was outside, of course. [00:34:13] Speaker E: What were you watching us? [00:34:13] Speaker B: Were there cats involved? [00:34:16] Speaker C: Had it recently rained? [00:34:17] Speaker D: Had you just mowed the grass? I felt like. I felt a little mustiness to it. Slight metallic taste. Once I got through it and it started burning, well, it got better. A lot better. Towards the second half, I muscled my way through it. Loosened up a little bit, had a little. Slight pepper. So I think probably I'm going to have to call a do over on this one person. [00:34:43] Speaker B: Yeah, we'll run it back. Everything's worth a second try. [00:34:46] Speaker D: Absolutely. Absolutely. [00:34:47] Speaker B: If you don't like it the first time, try it again. That's what my ex said. [00:34:51] Speaker C: So the. The thing that jumped out to me about this cigar is the packaging number one. [00:34:58] Speaker B: Oh, yeah. [00:34:59] Speaker C: I'm a big fan of cool packaging, cool branding. And this thing is. Is in a really cool little five pack. The. The box is super cooled, paint splatter, you know, graffiti kind of vibes, which is really awesome. And then also, too, there is. It looks like those two different halapa primings. You can actually. Ones kind of peeking underneath. Now, I'm not certain if it's like a full leaf and they're just kind of separated enough to where you can see it underneath. [00:35:34] Speaker B: Sure. [00:35:34] Speaker C: Or if it is just that little bit. But I think this was a really cool experience for me because you could literally taste every time you got into, you know, that little bit of the different halapa wrapper, which, you know, it's not like a classic barber pole. [00:35:53] Speaker E: Yeah. [00:35:53] Speaker C: But it. It. I had some reservations walking into it because I don't necessarily enjoy those style cigars on a consistent basis. [00:36:05] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:36:05] Speaker C: So I was a little apprehensive going into this, but it was. It was a kind of middle of the road smoke for me. It definitely has those cool, classic nicaraguan kind of minerally tones to it, but real nice, medium body midday smoke. You know, I would revisit it again, but this was one of my lesser favorites for cavalier. [00:36:36] Speaker B: Really? [00:36:37] Speaker C: Really? [00:36:38] Speaker B: Okay. [00:36:39] Speaker C: Yeah, no, really. [00:36:39] Speaker B: Like, what do you think? [00:36:41] Speaker E: Let's see. For the toro proprietor. Right? That's what we're doing. [00:36:45] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:36:46] Speaker E: This was mild up front. It had a hint of mints on it right off the. Right off the bat, as well as kind of in the middle. It. It went away, but it was replaced with more wood, cedar, oak. A lot more minty in the middle. Actually approaching menthol. [00:37:07] Speaker B: Yeah. A little bit of sweetness there. [00:37:10] Speaker E: I wrote down great burn line as I have not even touched this up even once. So that was great. Thank you very much. And I was a little worried because the unique elements of this rapper, you know, for sure. But, yeah, it was. It was a good dead solid, you know, average, you know, cigar. Yeah, I enjoyed. I think I enjoyed the unique nature of this particular cigar. [00:37:35] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:37:36] Speaker E: This has both a good storyline as well as I think it was telling the tale of somebody that's saying, I don't want to just make more of the same. I am willing to, you know, look at other parts of the plant to actually utilize. [00:37:48] Speaker B: So I'm looking here online at Cigar World, and they have a little bit of something to say about primings, just so we can let some folks know here, it says, why does it matter when the tobacco leaf is harvested from what zone it was taken? It's all the same tobacco, right? So the amount of sun and tobacco leaf receives and how long it's left to mature can sign it significantly impact its color, flavor, and combustibility. Leaves taken during the first priming sit close to the ground. As such, they have some shade to cover the leaves from above them. What. What's more, they're harvested first. So the leaves taken in the first primings are usually lighter, frailer, and produce milder flavor. Cigars. Yeah, for sure. Then the leaves taken later in priming, since they're harvested early, they retain more of the tobacco Leaf's natural sweetness, which is where you would probably get some of that menthol kind of flavor from. So that makes a lot of sense. What did you guys think about this? We're gonna rate it here. [00:38:48] Speaker D: I have to round up a little. [00:38:49] Speaker B: We're gonna go with threes. All right, well, we are on to the Lancero with the event only Lance arrow. [00:39:01] Speaker E: So it was actually banded as a undisclosed blend is how it was. [00:39:06] Speaker B: So I'm gonna read here what the website says. Yeah. Can I get some crickets? [00:39:12] Speaker E: We don't have crickets. [00:39:13] Speaker B: Banned once again. Yeah. So nothing online is mentioned about this. And I even asked Sebastian at the PCA, and he was like, we don't tell anyone what this is. But I have a suspicion that it's kind of what they roll for themselves to smoke. But it's also in a lancero, which is, as you know, my favorite size. [00:39:34] Speaker E: Not a superior size. [00:39:36] Speaker B: It is the best size, period. But let me think what you guys think about that. What did you guys think, rich? [00:39:44] Speaker D: I thought it was. Felt a little peppery on the light. It smoothed out real quickly. Mine was very loosely rolled, and it smoked pretty fast. The ash was loose. [00:39:55] Speaker B: So could that be that you smoke? [00:39:58] Speaker D: Yeah. Well, you know, I talked about this earlier. [00:40:00] Speaker C: Somewhere to be, man. [00:40:01] Speaker B: Come on. [00:40:02] Speaker D: No, no. I've smoked cigars for a long time. [00:40:06] Speaker B: Didn't say you didn't. [00:40:07] Speaker D: You know, but you smoked them fast for years. [00:40:09] Speaker B: I know. [00:40:12] Speaker E: I'm just waiting for a barger to break out like a metronome for you, you know, it's like tick. Yeah. Tick, tick and puff. [00:40:20] Speaker B: And puffin. [00:40:24] Speaker E: You know, hang on a second. I gotta wait. Now I can have a draw. [00:40:32] Speaker D: That's right. I did find it. No, I thought it was okay. I didn't find it x, you know, exquisite or outstanding in any particular way. So. [00:40:42] Speaker B: So what's interesting is I'm not gonna parrot what you're saying on that, but I think that this cigar event only is just kind of a solid staple, like a run of the mill cigar for them. It's not. It doesn't take characteristics of some of their other lines that they have, like their inner circles, which we didn't get on this, but. But what? We have put them in the PCA episode. If you want to hear our review and talk about those inner circles, go check out our PCA episode because it's in there. And then they also have limited editions. Each year they've been released, they've released a limited edition. And those cigars are fantastic. But this event only is just kind of a run of the mill. This is a cigar and we give it away. This is a good cigar. It's not a bad cigar. But, you know, it's not a. It's not one you're just going to run, run to grab. You know what I'm saying? If you're gonna grab a cavalier, you're probably gonna overlook that one and get a white or a black or a visa lap or something. You know, even their new graffiti series, like their new graffiti series is a budget six, like 799 shelf, 899 shelf. Freaking fantastic cigars. Like amazing cigars. [00:42:02] Speaker C: Also super cool. Like if that's their. If that's their mindset on the event only. I think there's a lot of brands out there that do the event only is supposed to be. This may be like super exclusive. You can only get it at an event like a holy grail or something like we're working on and we're trying to get some feedback, maybe. So if we're going to be giving out samples, it needs to be, you. [00:42:24] Speaker E: Know, it's a hundred thousand dollar order. We'll give you this one stick. [00:42:26] Speaker B: Yeah, yeah, for sure. [00:42:29] Speaker C: You know, and for them to it being that. That handshake smoke. Yeah, it's the one that you can hand to anyone. [00:42:36] Speaker B: That's right. [00:42:37] Speaker C: And they can have a decent smoking experience, no matter their experience or exposure level to smoking handmade premium cigars. [00:42:49] Speaker B: Right. And that's exactly what I'm getting at. Like that. That your experience is not off of my experience. What I'm trying to get at, Mike what do you think? [00:42:57] Speaker E: Well, my notes actually echo almost the same thing that rich said, and I'm. [00:43:03] Speaker B: Just gonna read this. [00:43:07] Speaker E: Up front. It was very well balanced in the middle. I thought it had much better finish than some of the other sticks in the flight. So. Good, solid stick. I think the one thing I wanted to add was, you know, as we're talking about the cigar, the thing it may be playing through your head is, how can I get one? And so I think you're gonna have to have a friend that is at your local retailer that, you know, for whatever reason, they might have picked up an extra one, or maybe they didn't enjoy the one that was handed to them. And, you know, maybe you'll have an opportunity to, you know, to enjoy it through that. But I don't think there were a lot of these, you know, that were made and handed out, you know, beyond the show itself, so. [00:43:46] Speaker B: Well, I think that. So, actually, to. Not to correct what you say, but this is when they have events in local stores, this is the cigar that they hand out. [00:43:56] Speaker E: Oh, so it's not just a trade show. [00:43:58] Speaker B: No, no, no. [00:43:58] Speaker C: It's just all event only. [00:44:00] Speaker B: All event only. [00:44:01] Speaker E: Okay. [00:44:02] Speaker B: What I would say to add on. [00:44:05] Speaker E: To what you're saying, other than the fact that I'm always usually right, I'm wrong, but he's. [00:44:08] Speaker B: He's wrong. That's fine. But go to your local shop, guys. Go to your local shop. Talk to your people. When you find out they're having an event, if they're having a Cavalier event, go. Because their reps are extremely knowledgeable and their brand is fantastic. And you can get some really good deals on some really quality cigars. So I would just say, go. Go buy some cigars. Get a couple of these. Event only still is what you think. [00:44:34] Speaker C: And this is just a snapshot into their portfolio. I got absolutely the domain rouge, the limited editions. [00:44:40] Speaker B: So good. [00:44:41] Speaker C: Those. These things go up another level. [00:44:44] Speaker B: Yeah, yeah, these. So their inner circle is. The domain rouge was the newest one, I believe, from 2024. The first one was called the chateau, I believe. [00:44:57] Speaker C: That sounds accurate. [00:44:58] Speaker B: It's blue. It's got the blue label on it, if I'm not mistaken. I could be wrong. I screw up two words. [00:45:04] Speaker C: The homage. [00:45:04] Speaker B: The homage. That's what it is. Yeah. I was way off. I'm sorry about that. [00:45:10] Speaker C: But don't be sorry. Be careful. [00:45:12] Speaker B: Yeah, that's right. Be careful. But honestly, go try these cigars. You're not going to be. You're not going to hate it. [00:45:21] Speaker D: Yeah. All in all the cavaliers are chiefs. Top of the line. Always, always be reaching for one. [00:45:27] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:45:27] Speaker D: No matter what. [00:45:29] Speaker B: Yeah. So, so let me take a little bit here, and let's. Let's talk about some, some pairings. What do we do? Mister Mike with the, this half and half tea. What do you got? [00:45:40] Speaker E: Wow. [00:45:41] Speaker C: I had an Arnold Palmer with this. [00:45:47] Speaker E: Well, I already talked about the OEC black logger. Do not miss that. It's. That was a excellent choice. And I can think of some other, you know, straight up, you know, even a Blenner vice would probably would have done very well. Even a belgian straight up blonde, you know, tribal. Yeah. Yeah. I don't think you'd want to go down the path of something that was hoppy. [00:46:15] Speaker B: You don't know me. [00:46:17] Speaker C: That's right. [00:46:18] Speaker E: I was trying to think of some, I'm sorry, the other pairings I had with some of these. The toro proprietor. I remember that I had a line of Highland scotch with that, and there was one Highland scotch that I had that was finished off in sherry, which is very common, you know, choice. And I actually thought that was working really well because that menthol thing was kind of playing out, and I needed something that had some sugars, you know, kind of laden in it, and the sherry finish really just kind of rounded things out for me, and I thought, hmm, yeah, that kind of works for me. [00:46:57] Speaker B: So, you know, what's interesting, and like I said, we didn't go over the inner circle, but I, one of my favorite pairings is their domain rouge with the cafe con leche. So any, any type of coffee, but the coffee can let. The cuban coffee is just fantastic. Perry. Absolutely. [00:47:15] Speaker E: It's tough for me to have something that has, is overloaded with sugar. You know, I think with, with a lot of cigars, I'm generally looking for something that, you know, it's not going to fight with a cigar, and sugars can just walk in and just obliterate on your palate. Yeah, yeah. [00:47:32] Speaker B: But I think that, you know, for me, and I guess when we talk about our headspace and talk about what, what pairs well and what goes, like, you know, that was one of my most favorite experiences with that. So what about you, Benjamin? [00:47:46] Speaker C: So I've been into some cool na beers recently. [00:47:49] Speaker B: Oh, yeah? [00:47:51] Speaker C: Running a new bar program and constantly trying new things. Athletic is really good. Brew dog punk af. [00:47:58] Speaker E: Yep, we had that one on the show. [00:47:59] Speaker C: Yeah, yeah. Super tasty. If you're looking, looking for an alcohol alternative, this one scratches an itch. [00:48:07] Speaker B: Nice, right? [00:48:08] Speaker C: It still tastes like a really well developed beer. [00:48:12] Speaker E: They do suck. [00:48:13] Speaker C: No. [00:48:14] Speaker D: Yeah. So I'm always going to go with the non alcoholic choices I've discovered lately. There's a pineapple juice. That sounds terrible. [00:48:26] Speaker B: Sounds awesome to me. [00:48:27] Speaker D: But it is fantastic. Even though there is some sweetness to it, I have found it hasn't. It's like the simply pineapple. Yeah. And I find it. It pairs pretty good. Tends to even out some of the smokes well. [00:48:42] Speaker B: Awesome. Well, we had some great, great conversation today with Cavalier. We had a really good time with this.
